Installing MPlayer on Ubuntu 8.10

This guide will explain first how to install MPlayer and finally as
install non-free-codecs w32codecs that were always handy ...

Enter (if you have not already done so) the following repository a file / etc / apt / sources.list

sudo gedit / etc / apt / sources.list

Here are the repository, make sure you have the following lines in sources.list: deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu intrepid

universe multiverse deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu intrepid

universe multiverse Save and close gedit. Now from the terminal:

sudo apt-get update & & sudo apt-get install mplayer

now have MPlayer available between programs in the Applications> Sound & Video . As you will see the graphical interface is very simple. To enhance the appearance of MPlayer with the issues and implementing it with new features you can install SMPlayer (optional):

sudo apt-get install smplayer smplayer-themes

Install codecs w32codecs from non-free-codecs medibuntu

http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/intrepid.list sudo wget - output-document = / etc / apt / sources.list.d / medibuntu.list
sudo apt-get update & & sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring & & sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install non-free-codecs w32codecs

should work without problems ... how it worked for me:)
